A Fast, Supportive Treatment

Understanding Immediate Dentures

Immediate dentures are used when a patient requires the removal of all remaining teeth and needs a replacement set right away. Also known as same day dentures, they are placed immediately after extractions, allowing patients to leave the clinic with a complete smile rather than experiencing a period without teeth.

Because a mold of the teeth and gums is taken before the extraction procedure, the dentures can be pre-made to fit as closely and comfortably as possible. This approach offers both functional and emotional support during what can be a significant transition. We understand that facing tooth loss can be overwhelming, and immediate dentures help ease that concern by providing an immediate, natural-looking treatment. After healing, some patients may later transition to complete dentures or explore implant denture for added long-term stability.

  • Impressions are taken in advance so your dentures are ready for placement.
  • Dentures are placed after extractions so you do not have to wait for your gums to fully heal.
  • Your denture fit may change as your gums and bone heal.
  • Denture relines or denture repairs may be recommended as your mouth continues to change.

Personalized Denture Treatment Plans

  • What are immediate dentures?

Immediate dentures are dentures prepared before planned tooth removal and inserted shortly after the teeth are extracted. They allow patients to have replacement teeth during the initial healing period instead of waiting for the gums and oral tissues to heal completely before receiving a denture.

  • How are immediate dentures made before extractions?

Impressions and measurements are taken while your remaining teeth are still present, allowing the denture to be designed before the extraction appointment. This process makes it possible to prepare dentures before teeth removal so they are ready for placement after the planned extractions are completed.

  • Will immediate dentures fit perfectly right away?

Immediate dentures are designed to fit as closely as possible at placement, but your gums and underlying tissues naturally change as they heal after extractions. Because of these changes, adjustments and denture relines may be required over time to maintain a comfortable and functional fit.

  • How long will I need to wear immediate dentures?

How long immediate dentures are worn depends on your healing progress and long-term treatment plan. They may serve as temporary dentures after extraction while your gums and oral tissues heal. Once healing progresses, your denturist can assess whether relining, replacement, or another denture option is appropriate.

  • How do I care for immediate dentures after surgery?

Follow the post-treatment instructions provided by your dental care team, as care requirements can vary after extractions. Proper cleaning and follow-up appointments are important for maintaining your dentures after tooth extraction and allowing the fit to be monitored as your mouth heals and changes.
