Patient Education

Guidance for Everyday Denture Care
  • Remove and rinse dentures after eating to wash away food particles and debris.
  • Brush your dentures at least once a day using a denture brush with dish soap, liquid antibacterial soap, or denture paste cleanser.
  • Avoid toothpaste, as it is too abrasive for denture materials.
  • Soak dentures overnight in a retail effervescent denture cleaner. When travelling, a diluted mouthwash solution can be used temporarily.
  • Clean your gums and tongue daily using an extra-soft toothbrush or a damp cloth to remove bacteria and improve blood flow.
  • Rinse dentures thoroughly with water before putting them back in your mouth.
Daily Care Tips

Oral Hygiene for Denture Wearers

Wearing dentures continuously, especially at night when saliva flow decreases, can lead to denture stomatitis, an inflammation of the tissue beneath your dentures. Symptoms may include redness, irritation, or a yeast infection. Treatment may include:

  • Removing dentures at night
  • Thorough daily cleaning
  • Prescription anti-fungal or anti-yeast medication
  • Chlorhexidine rinses (prescribed by a physician or dentist)

If you’re experiencing discomfort or think you may have denture stomatitis, we can examine the area and provide a referral if necessary. Learn more about denture treatments or book an appointment for an evaluation.

Recognizing Signs and Treatments

Understanding Denture Stomatitis

To support your daily denture care routine, we carry a selection of high-quality cleaning products right here at our clinic. These items help keep your dentures fresh, clean, and well-maintained. We offer:

  • Denture Brushes – Designed to clean denture surfaces effectively without damage.
  • Renew Denture Cleaner – An overnight soaking solution that removes stains and bacteria.
  • Denture Cups – Convenient containers for safely storing and soaking your dentures.
  • How Often Should Dentures Be Checked?

Dentures and oral tissues should be checked once a year by a dental practitioner or physician. Regular checkups help identify early changes or concerns, allowing us to recommend treatment before issues develop.

Your comfort, health, and safety are our top priorities, and we’re always here to help you maintain a healthy, confident smile.

  • How Do I Know if My Dentures Need Adjustments?

If your dentures feel loose, cause sore spots, make eating difficult, or no longer sit comfortably, it may be time for an adjustment. Changes in oral tissues happen naturally over time, and even well-made dentures may require relining or minor refinements. Our team can assess your dentures and recommend the right solution to restore comfort and stability.
